What Are Ceramic
Dental Implants?
A ceramic dental implant replaces the titanium post of a conventional implant with medical-grade zirconia, a white, metal-free ceramic. Like titanium, the zirconia post is placed in the jawbone to replace the tooth root and then restored with a ceramic crown, so there is no metal anywhere in the restoration.
At Richardson Family & Implant Dentistry, Dr. Aissar Sahori places both titanium and zirconia implants in-house. Ceramic implants fit naturally with our holistic, biocompatible approach and are an option for single teeth, implant-supported bridges and full-arch cases. See all of our dental implant options.
Titanium vs. Zirconia:
Which Implant Is Right for You?
Both materials are proven, and both are available here. The right choice depends on your bite, bone, esthetic goals and how you feel about metal in your body.
| Titanium implant | Ceramic (zirconia) implant | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Medical-grade titanium alloy | Medical-grade zirconia (ceramic) |
| Color | Gray metal; can show through thin gums | Tooth-colored white; no gray line |
| Metal-free | No | Yes |
| Biocompatibility | Excellent; rare sensitivity | Excellent; hypoallergenic, no metal ions |
| Strength & track record | Decades of data; very high strength | High strength; strong and growing track record |
| Design | Two-piece (post + abutment) standard | One-piece or two-piece depending on system |
| Typical cost | Lower per implant | Higher per implant |
| Best for | Most cases, complex bites, maximum flexibility | Metal-free preference, thin gums, front teeth, metal sensitivity |
Your written treatment plan shows both options side by side so you can decide with full information.
The Benefits of
Ceramic (Zirconia) Implants
- No metal in the jaw. Zirconia is a ceramic, so the implant, abutment and crown can all be metal-free.
- Tooth-colored with no gray line. If your gums are thin or recede over time, a white implant stays invisible where a titanium post can show through.
- Biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Zirconia releases no metal ions and is a common choice for patients with metal sensitivities.
- Low plaque affinity. The smooth ceramic surface attracts less plaque, which supports healthy gums around the implant.
- A fit for whole-body dentistry. Ceramic implants align with the mercury-safe, metal-free principles of our holistic practice.
- Placed and restored in one office. 3D planning, placement and the final ceramic crown are all handled by Dr. Sahori in Richardson.
Is a Ceramic Implant
Right for You?
Ceramic implants are a strong fit if you:
- Prefer no metal in your body, or follow a holistic or biological approach to health
- Have a known sensitivity to metals
- Are replacing a front tooth, or have thin or receding gums where a gray line would show
- Want a single tooth, an implant bridge or a full-arch solution without titanium
Titanium may still be the better recommendation for some complex bites, very limited bone, or cases that need the widest range of component options. A 3D cone-beam (CBCT) scan at your consultation shows your bone volume and lets Dr. Sahori recommend the material with confidence rather than guesswork.
Your Ceramic Implant
Journey
1. Complimentary consultation and 3D scan
An exam and a 3D CBCT scan confirm you are a candidate and map your bone precisely. The scan is credited if you move forward with treatment.
2. Placement by Dr. Sahori
The zirconia implant is placed in a planned, guided procedure. IV sedation is available, and the surgical site is treated with medical-grade ozone to support comfortable healing.
3. Healing and integration
Over the following months the implant integrates with your jawbone. Follow-up visits check progress and gum health.
4. Your ceramic crown
A custom zirconia crown completes the metal-free restoration, matched to your natural teeth.
What Do Ceramic
Dental Implants Cost?
Ceramic implants usually cost more per implant than titanium because of the material and the manufacturing of the ceramic components. The difference matters most for single teeth; on larger cases it is a smaller share of the total.
Every treatment plan from our office quotes both options, so you can weigh the difference yourself. Most PPO plans contribute toward implant treatment regardless of material, we verify your benefits before treatment, and financing is available. Ceramic Dental Implant
FAQs
Are ceramic implants as strong as titanium?
Modern zirconia is a very strong ceramic with a growing clinical track record. Titanium has the longer history and remains an excellent choice. At your consultation Dr. Sahori reviews your bite, bone and goals and tells you which material he recommends for your case.
How long do ceramic dental implants last?
With good home care and regular implant maintenance visits, a zirconia implant is designed to last many years. Longevity depends on bone support, bite forces and hygiene, the same factors that govern titanium implants.
Can I get All-on-X full-arch implants with zirconia?
Yes. Metal-free full-arch options with zirconia bridges are available for suitable candidates. Your 3D scan determines whether a ceramic full-arch plan is the right fit.
Are zirconia implants a good option if I have metal sensitivities?
Zirconia is hypoallergenic and contains no metal, which is one of the main reasons patients choose it. Bring any prior sensitivity or compatibility testing to your consultation.
Does insurance cover ceramic implants?
Many PPO plans contribute toward implant treatment regardless of material. We verify your benefits before treatment and offer financing for the remainder.
How long does healing take with a ceramic implant?
Integration with the bone typically takes a few months, similar to titanium. Ozone disinfection of the surgical site and conservative technique support comfortable healing.
